Frequently asked questions
When should we start college essay coaching?
Junior year summer is the sweet spot β no school pressure, and you have time for multiple revision rounds before early application deadlines (November 1). Starting in September of senior year is possible but tight. We've helped students in October before; it's stressful but doable.
How many sessions does the essay program take?
Our standard program is 6 sessions. Students applying to 10+ schools or with multiple supplement-heavy schools (like USC or Stanford) often add 2β3 more sessions for supplementals. We'll give you an honest estimate after the first session.
Do you write the essay for the student?
No β and that's by design. Colleges have seen a million AI-written and tutor-written essays. An essay that sounds like a 17-year-old wrote it gets remembered. We help students find and tell their own story in their own voice.
What about students who aren't strong writers?
That's exactly who this is for. Strong writers often just need editing. Students who struggle with writing need a structured process β topic selection, outline, then drafting step by step. We slow it down and build confidence alongside the essay.
Can you help with financial aid even if we think we won't qualify?
Yes. Many middle-income families assume they won't get aid and never apply β that's a costly mistake. Merit aid has nothing to do with income. We help families understand what they're actually eligible for and build a strategy around it.
Is this connected to the SAT/ACT program?
They're separate programs, but they work best together. Our SAT/ACT families who then move into college essay coaching have a clear advantage β they already know our tutors, and we already know their student's strengths.
